POINT OF VIEW (Abstractions)
In observing the material world
through the mind's eye, symbolic meanings are gleaned from the obscurest of
objects. Through the conduit of the camera, a hardware fixture in a
construction site or the background image of a film still reveal an
extraordinary cosmological scene strewn with esoteric meaning. A deteriorating
wall metamorphoses into a galaxy and the emanation of blazing light, from an
industrial lamp fixture, is transformed into the fullness of a new moon. The reality, the object in its
original state, is now replaced by the reality of Burgel's psyche. By reinterpreting the original image
through abstraction, each surrealistic
composition presents to the viewer an alternative otherworldly landscape.
